Wasn't there a band called Pop Will Eat Itself? The thing with Obama's tepid response (too bad Iran wasn't in Hounduras) is that the rhetoric of bringing freedom and all that looks like nonsense. Democrats fought harder in Florida in 2000 and in Minnesota in 2008/09 than they did for Iranian protesters.

I guess the people who love freedom in Iran learned a powerful lesson about the true nature of politics from the President of the United States, didn't they? Too bad it wasn't the lesson they had hoped for.

<abbr><em>Harrison’s last blog post..<a href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/harrisonprice/fLuv/~3/oK7RlgYDvq4/">Fun Facts About Socialized Healthcare!</a></abbr></em>

I agree, not my most coherent post, but maybe not my least coherent. However, Obama has made much effort to differentiate himself from his predecessors by expressing a desire to meet with the Iranians rather than isolate them. His reaction to the election seems to suggest that he doesn't really want this. If he really wanted to improve relations with Iranians, he would have congratulated Ahmadinejad on his victory like Ahmadinejad did to him when he won. By voting "present" on this issue, he has shown the Iranians that his desire to improve relations appears to be a desire rooted more in rhetoric rather than reality.

Obama only had bad choices, but his choices show his understanding is limited? How about a little internal consistency? And Iran used their election to prove Obama a fraud? I'm going to have to say you are assuming facts not in evidence.

You know what I love about this? The idea that everything is up to us. These weak democrats in control, it's a disgrace. If only we had a president with some grapes on him like W to go charging in there, we would be "greeted as liberators" no doubt.

This whole idea (which is not clear if you support the Republican position or not) is highly amusing. First, in Iran, the opposition party still holds to all of the tenants that makes Iran a "rogue nation" to us. Nuclear program alone... That's what scares us, and the opposition is just as excited about it. Second, this NEVER would have happened while Bush was in office. The opposition kept their mouths shut since Iran was labled the "Axis of Evil", under explicit threat of invasion from you and me. But with that pressure lifting (BECAUSE of Obama's election; it was no coincidence even though Obama did nothing but be himself and hold his policies) allowed for the opposition to breathe enough to protest without (read: "WITHOUT") looking like American shills. Because that's the kiss of death.

So if I have a point here (other than to say once again that Republicans generally and you specifically a bit incoherent) it is to say that there can be no nostalgia for Cheney/Rumsfeld, none of this "Oh, if ONLY we had our boys in there during this election cycle in Iran, we'd seem some change..." because it's counterfactual history, and it would have been an impossibility.

Cheers,
Chuckles
