to brainwash my kids before the public education system does it for me:
A school in Utah decided to show this video to the students on the first day of school. Of course, most parents weren’t too thrilled about it, and the principal who hadn’t seen it before it was shown had to apologize for propagandizing. On top of this, Barack Obama is planning on delivering a historic speech to school children on Sept. 8. The Dept. of Education also created lesson plans for teachers to use afterwards to indoctrinate kids into becoming Obama supporters. As in Utah, many parents aren’t too thrilled to see the public schools become indoctrination camps for Barack Obama. After all, he already has plenty of mindless supporters, that have been thoroughly brainwashed by universities. It is interesting that the same parents that are so upset about propaganda in the public schools don’t seem as concerned about the same kind of propaganda being advanced in publicly funded universities.
The following passage from a Washington Times editorial summarizes what makes this latest blunder by Obama so lamentable.
Radicals always have viewed children as wards of the state to be shaped into shock troops to advance their revolutionary agendas. It is an idea of ancient provenance. Plato said that “children must attend school, whether their parents like it or not; for they belong to the state more than to their parents.” Every radical leader of the 20th century put indoctrinating children at the top of his agenda. So when someone with Mr. Obama’s background reaches directly into every school in America, parents are rightly concerned.
The planned speech reinforces the lurking creepiness factor around the cult of personality being erected for this president. The White House is billing the speech as “historic,” and perhaps they even believe it. But there is no reason for this federal intrusion into family and community affairs. It’s not the president’s job to be a surrogate parent, teacher or principal for America’s children. He would better serve our kids by not bankrupting the country they will inherit.
On another note, maybe parents shouldn’t be so worried. After all, it is just one more speech by Obama. I have to say that it is a little disappointing that he is doing this during school. I am sure that he could convince all the major TV networks to air the speech during prime time instead of kicking off the Fall television season. Oh wait, that slot is reserved for yet one more speech on health care. Yawn…

Are you freaking kidding me? “I pledge to be a servant to our president?” I think I’m going to be sick.
I can’t believe I kept watching after the guy kissed his biceps and pledged his undying loyalty to Obama.
Seriously?? I can’t believe that… especially here. What is the world coming to! The worst yet
I am seriously laughing out loud that this scared you. OMG. Come on. You have got to be kidding me. I am so scared that my children my actually go to the website and volunteer their time and pledge to be a better person. It is scary showing something like this to children. Who knows maybe they will get ideas that they can actually make a difference for good in this world.
I don’t recall ever saying that the video was scary. If anything, it confirms the widespread belief that AShton Kutcher (directed it) is a talentless hack. Some of the messages in the video are innocuous. Some of the messages are blatant propaganda. Pledging to not flush the toilet isn’t going to inspire children to make a difference for good in this world. Pledging to mindlessly follow a publicly elected political servant isn’t always a recipe for making a difference for good in this world either. So to be clear, I don’t think the video was scary – I thought it was stupid. The leaders of the school who showed it are stupid too. This is why halfway through the video, the principal was like “Oh crap, we probably should have watched this first.”
If four years ago, supporters of Bush made an equally propagandistic video about the War in Iraq with a feel-good message about the need to help oppressed people in the world with a bunch of little Iraqi kids with missing limbs saying “thanks America” and soldiers telling kids that they need to pledge their support for the president, then the Left would have absolutely flipped out.
Propaganda is still propaganda. I don’t care how good the message makes you feel, and it doesn’t belong in public schools.
Amazing. I would applaud a program that encouraged service and dedication to areas where we can improve our country to operate in our public schools. But service and dedication to a man sounds a little bit more like religion to me…
How will Amerika’s Jugen Frau take the video? To me it’s like icing on a rancid cake.
Am I being punk’d?
I pledge to be a servant of my president!?!?! When did the government stop serving the general public? When did they flip it around on us? Now we have to pay taxes to keep these guys in office, and they expect us to pledge to serve them?
